Model #3 Progession

As a city planning student I would aspire to transform my own bedroom/study in to a space that sparks inspiration, hence the Sydney Skyline carving and archway ceiling that resembles bridges that communicate these interests from the inside and the outside of the model.

Thesis Brainstorm

Statement

An individual’s workspace or bedroom is a space that reflects an individual's personality and what drives them towards their goals and to be productive.

Thesis

How can shapes be used in the design of infrastructure to manipulate light and shadows in practical or abstract ways to communicate personal interests?

Argument

Many traditional bedrooms are encased by four symmetrical walls, a door and a window.

However, as cities evolve and develop more and more homes are being built in unconventional ways that have adapted this norm to being whatever may fit into our densely populated suburbs.

Hence why my models transition from more practical transformations of my bedroom/study space to more innovative but less viable designs

Conclusion...

Through experimenting with the use of models made from card and particular cutting and folding techniques, it is evident that
  •      although some designs may be prove the thesis they would not translate back to a 1:1 scale effectively for practical use.
  •      designs such as the tunnel are better used for their intended purpose, e.g. walkways, car tunnels, bridges, etc. rather than bedroom designs.
  •       etc.....

Model #6

Investigating how by transforming the traditional shapes of study/bedrooms from angular to circular allows light to travel and influence the mood of a space to be more abstract and emotive rather than functional.

Model #5

Investigating how rooms can be multi-layered and whether or not it is a more effective use of space in comparison to conventional study/bedrooms. And how balconies may be more effective above the rooms ground level in allowing more light to enter, as well as, providing a better view and more privacy.

Model #4

Investigating how more light can be let in to a room from above through adding an extruding sky light that also makes a travelling shadow throughout the day, similar to a sundial.
